| AGA WTD Award was initiated by ITA in 2008 to honor a teacher par excellence. The AGA WTD award commemorates and salutes a living legend Professor Anita Ghulam Ali – an active citizen above all. On August 8, 2014 she left us after a protracted illness – however, the legend lives on as a teacher leader – an activist for teachers’ status in multiple ways, but above all she inspired millions of students and colleagues.
For WTD 2014 the theme for the award is “inclusive education”. Inclusion in education process or Inclusive education (IE) is “the process of increasing the participation of students in, and reducing their exclusion from, the cultures, curricula and communities of local schools”. The theme will focus on teachers across Pakistan in all sub-sectors of education to share what they have accomplished to address inclusion practically in their classrooms, schools and worldviews. The award will extend to schools and institutions for different ability students as well as mainstream schools where teachers have made conscious efforts to address the needs of the ‘differently abled’ students and colleagues.
The Criteria and Guidelines to the participating teachers are given in five progressive categories:
- Inclusive practices that teachers implement in classrooms/institutions with clear description and evidence
- The process adopted for designing and implementing them with clear steps explained and evidence on how do they know that these were successful – including recommendations/case studies - parental/guardians views and/or media coverage etc.
- The element of sacrifice undertaken by teachers in terms of time, energy, preparation and resources expended
- Any institutional affiliation/establishment, professional development and knowledge acquisition on inclusion that teachers can share with evidence
- All Professional qualifications and years of professional practice of teachers in each institution (just give the past 10 years) with evidence
