A two-day training of trainers (ToT) on "Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)" was held on 24th & 25th July 2013  Wednesday & Thursday at head office ITA Lahore under  the program " Establishing Day Care Centers in Flood Affected Areas" . ITA’s district program coordinators in the area of "Early Childhood Development" and trainers (ITA Punjab and Sindh) participated in the training. The purpose of this ToT  was to explain the core concepts of DRR as well as to enable the participants to replicate these trainings with mothers’ steering committees " Sanjh/Panjoh committee "of day care centers in flood affected areas of Punjab and Sindh.  The ultimate objective of this ToT is, of course, to enable mothers and females of target communities to perform an active and empowered role in a disastrous situation at domestic and village level. Simultaneously, the training will serve to raise awareness among mothers on the importance of safe and protected environment for young children in case of emergencies.

Furthermore, same sessions are also needed to be held with males separately to build up their capacity for disasters; flood ( preparedness, response and recovery) , evacuation in case of emergencies , first aid provision to burns, cuts, bleeding, nose bleeding and  fractures etc. The concerning departments will also be involved to hold these trainings; Rescue 1122, DDMA (district disaster management authority) will be requested to collaborate for communities’ capacity building on DRR.
