Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) or the “Centre of Education and Consciousness” Public Trust, established in 2000, is a civil society organization focused on addressing the profound education crisis of Pakistan through action and policy research, service-delivery and advocacy. ITA has been a strong education champion across Pakistan with field programs covering complex aspects of: Access, Learning, Quality, Evaluating Low-Cost Private Schools, Inclusion, Child Protection, Gender Justice and Education, Tolerance, Citizenship, Health and Hygiene Interventions, and Technical and Vocational Training Programs with government, communities and public and private school systems.

ITA team led by CEO Baela Raza Jamil, together with Minister Zobaida Jalal, Secretary Senate Mohammad Qasim Samad Khan and Senator Sana Jamali met Chairman Senate Saadiq Sanjrani to discuss the way forward for Education Parliamentarians Caucus.

ITA team presented the Chairman Senate with ASER report and books "Children of Light" written by Fauzia Minallah, converted in braille by Sightsavers and "Aik Sabaq Seekha" written by Aminah Alavi on how to treat people with epilepsy and other disabilities.

The Household Listing Training for ASER 2021 (Urban) Survey was conducted by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on February 17 in Lahore and on February 21, 2022 in Karachi. In the training, 25 master trainers from all provinces were trained. The field visit for the PBS team was also arranged by ITA to exercise the practice of household listing.

PLF celebrates International Mother Language Day
PLF celebrated International Mother Language Day on February 2022 where our Storytellers Hamna and Gulshan Bibi from Bahawalpur read interesting stories in their mother tongues to emphasize the learning in regional languages. We also celebrated our 28 adapted books in Urdu, Sindhi, Pashto and Dari. Watch Saraiki storytelling.

PLF is determined to promote the importance of all the dying or endangered regional languages by collecting the language resources in Khowar, Dhatki, Wakhi and Saraiki to implement it in different learning camps in different cities.

Young Author Series
PLF in collaboration with Chughtai Public Library has conducted a young author series on February 19, 2022, where our YAA 2020-2021 winner Muhammad Sulayman Chaudhry read his winning story 'My World' with children. The session was followed by roleplaying on the story which was enjoyed by kids.

Kitab Gari visits Kashana Home

Kitab Gari vsited Kashana Home for Destitute and Orphan Girls. Children had a great time enjoying the storytelling session on 'A Special Garden' followed by different learning art and craft activities. Kitab Gari has also collaborated with Faiz Ghar to increase children's access to books and share their love for reading and storytelling.

Storytelling sessions with Noon Academy

PLF has conducted 84 Storytelling sessions since October, 2021 in collaboration with Noon Academy with more than 2,070 kids attending online storytelling sessions on the Noon Academy platform.

A policy dialogue titled “Child Friendly Libraries in Schools for promoting Reading and Literacy” was organized by ITA, in collaboration with the School Education Department (SED) Punjab, Children Library Complex (CLC) and Room to Read (RtR), under the Pakistan Literacy Project (PLP) in Lahore on February 22, 2022.

The Policy Dialogue was held to acknowledge and celebrate SED school/district leaders who enabled the success of PLP libraries, including the CEOs Lahore and Bahawalpur, school head teachers and PLP Teams. There was also a public viewing of active libraries and activities in a Learning Marketplace which was the center of attention for teachers, students and guests. The Champions of Learning who made the PLP and active learning libraries a success were also acknowledged at the policy dialogue.

ITA, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce Bahawalpur, participated in a three-day cultural event Cholistan Jeep rally arranged on February 11-13, 2022 at Cholistan desert. It was a very fruitful event in which almost all government officials i.e. Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Core Commander Ranger, Core Commander Army, District Police Officer, VC Islamia University Bahawalpur and other stakeholders from district Bahawalpur visited the event site along with their families.
ITA teams set up Siyani Sahelian trade products stall which was the bestselling stall at the event. It got the special attention of government high officials, other stakeholders and their respective families. In the closing ceremony, Core Commander Army, Vice-Chancellor of Islamia University Bahawalpur, Commissioner BWP addressed and recognized the efforts of ITA and presented the certificate of appreciation.

Girls Lower Secondary Education Program (GLSEP) – UNESCO

ITA conducted a radio show on Jazba FM 98.6 Muzaffargarh on February 10, 2022 under the Girls Lower Secondary Education Program (GLSEP) to talk about Girls' Education, Learning during COVID-19, and Second Chance Programs. The radio show was especially arranged to share the initiatives taken under GLESP to improve health and hygiene, and wash facilities and raise awareness on secondary education for girls. Children in 30 government public primary and elementary listened to the show and were sensitized on these important topics.

GEEA Leaders in Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan recently underwent a 2-day STEM leadership training where participants learned effective leadership for communication and interactive STEM activities they can replicate with young girls in their communities. Through these skills, our leaders will share the wonder of science in their communities and inspire young girls to become #WomenInSTEM.

ITA Rahim Yar Khan conducted Village Forums Convention to sensitize Aawaz II partners, forums members, and stakeholders on inclusion and tolerance; and strengthen their capacity to lead actions for behavioral change at the community level and to share achievements and learning on inclusion and tolerance specifically focusing on citizen’s engagement on Aawaz II thematic areas. 412 VF members including men, women, Transgenders, PWDs, District Forum members, Aawaz Change Agents, CSOs Representatives, and Political parties participated actively.

Dialogues on Tolerance and Interfaith Harmony were conducted to commemorate of World Interfaith Harmony Week.

Collective Community Action Plan was planned and Implemented in Tehsil Sadiq Abad to discuss Transgender Rights and registration of their CNICs in NADRA.

LSK students received new uniform sets for the summer season.

The TVET team is regularly taking orders and successfully earning for artisans and TVET.

The Volunteer team organized a STEM learning session for LDA students who actively participated and learned many things.

LSK students participated in an Open Mic session organized by Walled city and presented poetry and speech. Mr Adeel Hashmi appreciated and encouraged students with his motivational words.

Computer course students are now stepping forward to prepare PPT presentations.

LSK has also started to organize technical learning sessions for girls led by LSK boys who learned electrician and AC/Refrigeration courses.

LSK initiated a weekly learning session for students "Fun k Rang Bachon k Sang" facilitated by students to provide learning & practical platform to polish their life skills.

Training session on Playful Practices and Child Engagement
|
|
|
ITA held a two-day interactive training session of ECCE on “Playful Practices and Child Engagement” for teachers, ECE professionals and mother of young children. The training content of Playful practices has been carefully developed to meet the needs of participants and to help them develop skills which make learning of the children more interactive and enjoyable with play.
Participants were involved in activities to develop vital skills needed to handle and engage young ECCE children such as learning activities, child management skills and leading education approaches used for both in curriculum and education methodologies. For participants’ engagement, strategies like group work, presentations, role plays and individual presentations were used. Sessions were also held for critical discussion on EF, storytelling, reading literacy development, briefing and debriefing on training topics and further micro teachings on storytelling sessions and reflections were held.

On February 13, 2022, ITA celebrated World Radio Day. Radio is a powerful tool to impart education and for democratic discussion. If we increase the availability and usage of radio, it can play a significant role in improving the learning outcomes of children.

International Mother Language Day

On February 21, 2022, ITA celebrated International Mother Language Day. ITA is proud to have translated 28 Room to Read books into Urdu, Sindhi, Pashto and Dari to promote reading in mother tongue among children across Pakistan.
