Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi with the aim to expand reading habits among primary grade students has kicked off Phase 2 of the Pakistan Literacy Project “Classroom Library Program”. In collaboration with the School Education Department, classroom libraries will be established in 10 new schools in Lahore and Bahawalpur, whilst support will continue to be provided to the existing 24 schools in the same districts. In order to run the program smoothly one of the key factors is the involvement of the school leaders and community members. To this end, we have organized meetings with the school staff (head teacher and teachers) as well as the community members of the new schools to set clear expectations about the program and provide an opportunity for the school to enhance students learning through reading |

Girls’ Education and Enterprise Alliance (GEEA) Leaders from Muzaffargarh who have been trained in leadership and advocacy since 2021 conducted sessions on leadership for social change in 35 schools with over 638 beneficiaries under the Girls’ Lower Secondary Education Project (GLSEP) by UNESCO. The sessions focused on qualities of effective leaders in small communities, and planning for social change using SMART goals and SWOT analysis. Each session was 2 hours, and included activity and dialogue based learning.
At GEEA, our nominated GEEA Leaders exhibit the skillset to lead educational activities in their communities, especially with young girls in their areas. Peer-learning models, especially directional peer learning, in communities where GEEA leaders reside can help foster an active culture of education which has two-fold benefits: it allows for girls in these communities to develop skills which will improve learning gains, and provide GEEA leaders with a platform to exercise their leadership and dedication to the cause of girls’ education in a regular and systematic manner. |
