60TH CHILDRENʼS LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2019 KARACHI |

A two-day Children's Literature Festival
(CLF) was held at the Arts Council of
Pakistan, Karachi on 7th and 8th August.
The CLF is the largest learning festival for
children and teachers in Pakistan enabling
children to learn by using multiple senses
and intelligences. Managed by Idara-e-
Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA), it has a nationwide
footprint having successfully completed 60
CLFs in all four provincial capitals,
Islamabad and over 25 districts of the
country, reaching over 1.4 million children
and teachers since its inception in
November 2011.

There were film screening and talks by filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Shehrbano
Saiyid, dance performance by Sheema Kermani, Sing Along with Khaled Anam, dramatic
readings by Zambeel, storytelling sessions, puppetry performance, book launches, open
mic session, fun games, clay modeling, digital 3D activities, mental health camp, learning
and reading corner, arts workshops, history discussions, poetry, panel discussions musical
concert and much more |

statistics on school education in Pakistan.
Currently, there are over 22 million out of
school children in Pakistan ‒ a fact that
demands attention from all segments of
society.
Our team has started working on releasing the
latest statistics under ASER 2019. Stay tuned

ASER Centre conducts workshop in Kenya |

ASER Centre conducted a workshop in Kenya
to build Common Assessment Tools for all the
countries under PAL Network.
The four-day workshop, attended by 30 heads
from 13 countries, was successful in deciding a
set of cognitive instruments for a common
assessment framework along with contextual
indicators and a timeline for a few more pilots.

reached the final phase of its peer
trainings. A peer training was held in
Rawalpindi. |

August 12: International Youth Day was
observed on August 12. The day is
celebrated to raise awareness about the
issues of young people. As access to
quality education is a major area of
concern in Pakistan, ITA is assisting the
government of Pakistan in fulfilling the
targets of SDG4 by addressing
educational bottlenecks through timely
resource mobilization and influencing
public policy. |

August 14: ITA celebrated Independence
Day with school children with the
pledge to promote 'Education for All' as
guaranteed in the constitution of
Pakistan.
