Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi
Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) or the “Centre of Education and Consciousness” Public Trust, established in 2000, is a civil society organization focused on addressing the profound education crisis of Pakistan through action and policy research, service-delivery and advocacy. ITA has been a strong education champion across Pakistan with field programs covering complex aspects of: Access, Learning, Quality, Evaluating Low-Cost Private Schools, Inclusion, Child Protection, Gender Justice and Education, Tolerance, Citizenship, Health and Hygiene Interventions, and Technical and Vocational Training Programs with government, communities and public and private school systems.

Annual Status of Education Report (ASER)

ASER has collaborated with the Karachi Urban Lab (KUL) to work on a Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) funded research on studying the social and technical infrastructure of Karachi to improve cooling in cities in the context of global warming and urban poverty. The evidence gathered regarding household information will help KUL to suggest policy recommendations to counter climate change in low-resource urban areas.

To influence local governments at the Union Council level to take action in providing out-of-school children in katchi abadis with education, ITA conducted a household survey in Shah Latif Town Karachi. Located in the outskirts of the metropolitan, the town is host to various factories and semi-urban settlements. In an effort to conduct a diagnostic analysis of the status of education in Shah Latif, ITA worked on gathering data on the number of OOSC in Shah Latif Town, and the willingness of OOSC households to spend on education. This was done through conducting household surveys in 3000+ households in different Union Councils across Shah Latif Town. It is hoped that through this diagnostic report and ITA’s intervention programs designed for accelerated learning will help children in Shah Latif Town acquire basic primary education, as is their right under Article 25-A of the constitution. Future Plans: ITA hopes that this diagnosis and relevant learning solutions will mobilize industry and local government to invest in foundational literacy and numeracy for all children in the area.
