Anita Ghulam Ali was one of the country's most famous teachers who served twice as the Education Minister of Sindh and held several accolades to her credit. Professor Ali contributed to innumerable exposes on education, development and civil society in many leading national English and Urdu daily newspapers. Professor Ali was appointed as Minister for Education, Culture, Science, Technology, Youth and Sports twice. Later, she was appointed as the Advisor on Education to the Governor. She was the recipient of Sitara-i-Imtiaz for her lifetime contribution to education and community development. She, as she often said, is survived by 'thousands and thousands' of her students.

The Beginning of ASER’s 2014 Cycle (June to August)
ASER 2014 cycle began in the month of June with the core team and assessment experts working on developing the tools. ASER tool review meeting took place on 7th July, 2014 with assessment experts from all provinces giving their valuable feedback. Partner Selection Meeting was held on 8th July, 2014 in Lahore where national and provincial partners were selected on a given criteria. Roundtable Conference on International Father’s Day Celebration
(17th June 2014)
To highlight the importance of Fathers and promote Responsible fatherhood a Roundtable conference was held on 17th June, 2014 at Avari Hotel under the project by Schools4life and ASK . Key stakeholders form different walks of life attended the conference and shared their views regarding this important aspect that has been neglected in the past. Begum ZakiaShahnawaz and Mr. Khalil Tahir Sindhu (Minister for Human Rights and Minorities affairs) were the Guests of honors for the event.
  Chalo Parho Barho : Training in Sukkur Celebration
(1st - 9th July 2014)

With our fellow partners in India, Pratham, ITA conducted a ten-day training for the Chalo Parho Barho Program in Sukkur. The training was headed by representatives from Paratham, India who shared their activity based learning curriculum with our district teams and how to implement it in the field. It was quite an interactive session and provided us with a model to incorporate in our Chalo Parho Barho Program.
  Training of Health Care Providers on Youth Friendly Health Services and Value Clarification Father’s Day Celebration
(16th - 17th July 2014)
2 days training of Health care providers on Youth Friendly Health Services and value clarification was being held during the month July in Masood Hospital under the project by Schools4life and ASK . Doctors and other staff of 5 selected health facilities under ASK participated in the training. Dr. MunazzaHaris (Technical Advisor-Health Services) Rutgers WPF conducted the training.
 
     
 
Candlelight Vigil on 100 Days of Abduction of the 200 Nigerian Girls from Chibok to Bannu #BringOurGirlsBack
(22nd -23rd July 2014)

On the night of 14-15 April 2014, over 200 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. The kidnappings were claimed by Boko Haram, a proclaimed religious extremist against the westernization of Nigerian Muslims. July 22 marked 100 days of this dreadful tragedy. As activists for education for ALL, especially girls, ITA arranged for vigils all across Pakistan on the same day to show solidarity with the international community.

  Different Dimensions of CLF from June to August

Stretching out to IDPs
Director Programs Idara-e-Taleem-O-Aagahi (ITA), Baela Raza Jamil along with the CLF team, Maham Ali and Shams Shah visited Bannu on Thursday, 10th of July to witness the situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who had migrated from North Waziristan as a result of the military operation there. ITA conducted various activities including mural painting drawing and narration of children's books, distribution of 100 gift bags to the children and 60 ration packs to families. Alongside, CLF adopted two schools and provided them with books so that classes can start immediately.
  Storytelling Sessions
Musharraf Ali Farooqi , internationally acclaimed Pakistani Novelist, conducted an interactive storytelling session onFriday, 8th August at the Children's Library Complex in Lahore. Musharraf read from 'Moochhandr ki Niraali Moochain' written by himself and 'Tot Batot' which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Another storytelling session was conducted by the HBL team & Amra Alam, editor of Uran Tashtaree at HBL auditorium on 25th June, 2014 in Karachi. The session was very interactive with discussions and narration of a story titled "GulakkaKamaal” written by Amra Alam. Similarly, a storytelling session was conducted by Ahsan Ausaf, preschool teacher and storyteller at Kuch Khaas, with 14 boys from a madrassah on 7th July, 2014 in Islamabad.
  Creative Workshops
Alongside, a Creative writing workshop was held by Shaha Jamshed in Karachi. By the end of the session, students came up with wonderful stories on various topics which were later incorporated into Uran Tashtaree, CLF's bi monthly magazine. Furthermore, a recycling workshop was directed at the Children's Literature Festival Secretariat in Islamabad on the 26th of June, 2014. Workshop was conducted by Nosheen Malik from Funkor Childart Centre with students from Dhok Darzia Child Labor Drop in Center and from Master Ayub's school. She taught the children step by step how to recycle and make use of items used in everyone's daily lives. It was an interesting initiative that children enjoyed a lot.

HerRightToEducation: Ensuring Quality Education for ALL Girls

Inequality in education has remained an unfortunate reality across the globe - especially in terms of gender. While the situation in developed countries has significantly improved, the under developed and developing countries still face considerable gender gaps in education access and learning. To throw light on this, Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi in collaboration with Oxfam GB, Foundation Open Society Institute, Beydaar Society, Child Rights Movement and other Civil Society Organizations striving for education organized a seminar titled: 'HerRightToEducation: Ensuring Quality Education for All Girls'. Given the many conflicts and emergency situations within Pakistan and across the globe, the seminar also highlighted the issues pertaining to education in conflict and their effects on girl's education.
  Community Based Education & Learning Program
(19th 22nd August)
Earlier, fifteen community based ECD centers titled as "Sanjah Vehra / Pahinjoh Vehro” were established in flood affected districts on Punjab and Sindh in 2010. Currently, four Sanjah Vehras have been established in Musa Kheil Balochistan in 2014,in collaboration with Pakistan Poverty Elevation Fund (PPAF).

ASER Pakistan and ITA in UK - Discussions for Collaboration in Research & Advocacy: Right to Education and Post 2015 Agenda
(11th - 12th June 2014)
Warwick University hosted a seminar on "Citizens of Tomorrow: reshaping education from the grassroots” on June 11, 2014 represented b Shaheen Sardar Ali, at the prestigious Law School. Baela Raza Jamil represented ITA there, lead the discussion focused on several areas but particularly on the need for ASER methodology to be replicated in the field of health as well to address fundamental needs of people by a citizen led approach - a demand side response.

ITA's Participation in the 3rd INTER-REGIONAL EDUCATION
(11th -15th August 2014 SIKKA & BALI, INDONESIA)
Baela Jamil, on behalf on ITA, joined the 3rd INTER-REGIONAL EDUCATION FORUM in Bali. Delivering a poster presentation on Life Skills Based Programing, she illustrated the unique models and multi sectoral activities for life skills based education of children (age 3-12), youth groups and parents highlighting possible interventions and challenges in Pakistan. The forum was an opportunity to engage with partners and affiliates across the border to explore and inquire deeply on emerging and consolidated models that could effectively contribute to achieving education goals.
 
 
Colloquium on Education: Philosophy, Policy, and Practice
(22nd -24th August 2014, Jaipur)
Baela Raza Jamil, Director Programs ITA, attends a two-day colloquium on education focused on philosophy, policy, and practice from 22nd-24th August 2014 in Jaipur, India.The colloquium was organized by the Centre for Civil Society in partnership with Friedrich Naumann Foundation and explored questions centered on the idea whether freedom of conscience can be reconciled with the idea of a compulsory, standardized, and state-controlled system of education. Thoughts of liberal social theorists and liberal educators were applied to the problems of classroom and society.
