ITA’s Covid-19 journey |
Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) continues with its Covid-19 journey after it took early action and prepared a response to the pandemic so that #LearningNeverStops amidst global pandemic. ITA teams made an organized effort taking the following steps to ultimately offer multiple learning solutions with protection under the "Corona Saviours/Muhafiz" campaign. |
1 - Mapping In the preparatory phase, cell phones data was collected, beneficiaries were located and volunteers were engaged across Pakistan under the Corona Saviours campaign.
2 - Strategy In the second step, learning materials were consolidated and platforms to disseminate them were decided.
3 - Mobilization Corona Saviours/Muhafiz campaign was launched to make behavior change a reality by giving powerful information for prevention against Coronavirus using messages in English, Urdu and Sindhi.
4 - Training Teachers and learning activists were trained so learning never stops for children amid schools closure.
5 - Dissemination These learning materials were shared with communities, social media and PTV TeleSchool to reach mass audiences.
6 - New Cadre And now we have a new cadre of learners and teachers who are taking learning to a new level using understanding through observations, art and creativity- and there is plenty of evidence to share!
The key ingredients of the new cadre are: Giving Agency to Learners; High Trust across Groups/Individuals; Eager to Engage with Multiple Distance & Ed Tech Learning Platforms; Working as Teams/Collaboratively; Working across Disciplines - Science, Language, Maths, Social Sciences, Cooking, Play etc; Education/Health/Protection/WASH/Nutrition; Healers through Social-Emotional Care - kuch Dukh ka Madavaa hi sahi - the Heart-Mind link!

ITA sets up learning courtyard "Sanjha Verha" "Our Learning Courtyards" in Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Muzzafargarh and Bahawalpur (Sindh and Punjab). This is a community collaboration for Early Childhood Education (ECE) while practicing Social Distancing. Here we offer play, protection, learning, expression and health/hygiene support through Lady Health Workers (LHWs) mobilized from that very community/ village. The SV is active for one hour slots for a group of 8-10 children with parents, teachers, volunteers and Lady Health Workers. Because #LearningNeverStops in safe spaces! |

The government’s TeleSchool Education TV initiative is helping compensate for the learning crisis in these uncertain times. ITA is a proud partner of PTV TeleSchool that has been airing storytelling videos "Suno Suno Aik Kahani" by CLF-ITA productions, and the short films on Life Skills & Protection by ITA and SOC Films for better learning and awareness of children. The Citizens Archives of Pakistan have also joined hands with ITA for TeleSchool. |

Life Skills for Kids (LSK) |

LSK is an initiative of ITA, Stora Enso and Bulleh Shah Packaging to provide life skill based education to the children aged 5-15 who are intensely involved in rag picking. These children went from trash picking to getting education and vocational skills with the help of ITA. ITA, under the LSK project, is working on Corona Saviours campaign by engaging students through online awareness on precautionary measures against Coronavirus besides providing them with online learning opportunities. |

Children’s Literature Festival (CLF) |

CLF created an Online Book Club to defeat Corona through Books where children could read, think and share together. Over 170 children from across Pakistan joined and participated in this WhatsApp group. Besides, storytelling videos by CLF-ITA productions are regularly being created and uploaded on YouTube and social media, which are being aired on PTV TeleSchool.
CLF is also teaching arts and crafts activities to children through short, interactive videos.

SAFE Internet and Outreach Programme |

ITA, in collaboration with Telenor Pakistan, continues with the \'SAFE Internet and Outreach Programme\' that focuses on educating the children of Pakistan on the safe use of Internet, reducing the chances of online risks like cyberbullying, trolling etc. Under this programme, ITA is running a Campaign for ‘DigiWorld’, a super fun and interactive game developed by Telenor that allows parents and children to test their online/internet safety knowledge. http://digiworld.theparentzone.co.uk/game/digiworld/ |

Siyani Saheliyan through their team and field workers are not only supporting Corona Saviours in disseminating prevention and awareness material against Covid-19 but are also producing protective gear and facemasks by quickly identifying their increasing demand. They have produced 8000 units of facemasks that have already hit the market with Round 2 of their production in full swing.

Under the Siyani Sahelian programme, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (SOC) Films have created customized animated short films on subjects ranging from financial literacy, menstruation, education, nutrition and self-awareness in its venture to develop life skills and empower girls during the Covid-19 crisis. Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) |

ASER 2019 findings for the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been made public. ASER 2019 covered 25 rural and 3 urban districts in KP. ASER findings show that the proportion of enrolled children aged 3-5 years has increased in the province while proportion of enrolled children aged 6-16 years has decreased as compared to 2018. Also, more children are going to government schools than private schools.
ASER Tools are available online free of cost to gauge learning competencies of children and in collaboration with DeafReach for those with hearing impairment.
